The Central Ethics Committee for Stem Cell Research (ZES), which is appointed by the German Federal Government for three years at a time, examines the applications for the import and use of human embryonic stem cells (hES cells) submitted to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in accordance with the German Stem Cell Act (StZG) from a scientific and ethical perspective and issues opinions on the applications.

We are looking for a scientist to head the ZES office and look forward to receiving your application!

Your job

  • Organizing and conducting the meetings of the ZES and its working groups.
  • Taking minutes of the meetings, implementation of the Commission's resolutions
  • Technical preparation of opinions and activity reports of the ZES
  • Providing technical and organizational support to the (deputy) members of the ZES in the performance of their duties
  • Organizing the cooperation between the ZES and the RKI
  • Continuous monitoring and communication of current scientific developments in the field of stem cell research and collaboration on scientific publications in this field

Your professional profile

Formal requirements

  • A successfully completed university degree (diploma, master's or comparable university degree) in biology, medicine or a related field
  • Doctorate in one of the above fields

In the case of foreign educational qualifications, we require a certificate of equivalence with a German qualification.

Knowledge and experience

  • in research with human stem cells, in particular pluripotent stem cells, proven by publications in international journals
  • in the field of human molecular and cell biology
  • Confident in using common MS Office programs
  • Language skills (CEFR level): German C2, English at least C1

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience in the supervision of committees
  • Experience in scientific administrative activities
  • Experience in the preparation of research reports/research proposals
  • Experience in dealing with ethical issues

  • Target group orientation with the ability to communicate complex scientific issues at various levels in an understandable way and to express oneself precisely in writing and orally. Organizational skills with prioritization based on importance and urgency
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for decisions

Our offer

Depending on your qualifications and experience, you may be offered a position as a civil servant up to pay grade A 15 BBesO or alternatively an employment contract up to pay grade E 15 TVöD.
