Your job:
Conduct scientific research in the field of phylogenomics with a particular focus on leveraging artificial intelligence for Public Health:
- Work independently on exciting research projects at the interface of public health, evolutionary biology and mathematical epidemiology
- Collaborate across disciplines and departments within the RKI to combine and augment the RKI’s expertise in the research on the evolution and spread of infectious disease agentsg., through:
- AI-assisted modeling of the evolutionary and epidemiological processes driving public health relevant pathogens
- Development of AI-supported phylogenomic methods for analysing pandemic data, for example on vector-borne diseases
- Develop novel algorithms/methods, manage and integrate data and provide quality assurance for this work
Preparation of scientific reports and publications, as well as assistance with science outreach/communication activities, e.g.:
- Publication of research results in national and international journals with high impact factor
- Presentation of research results at national and international congresses
- Close cooperation with colleagues in the context of the communication/events & public relations work of the ZKI-PH
Your professional profile:
Formal requirements
- Advance higher education degree (university diploma, master's degree) in a medical, natural sciences or mathematical discipline
- PhD preferred
In the case of foreign educational qualifications, we require a certificate of equivalence with a German qualification.
Skills and experience
- Research experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning in an academic or industrial context
- in the analysis of genomic pathogen data
- in common programming languages
- Experience in quantitative data analysis and in handling complex bodies of data
- Highly developed skills in scientific publishing as well as the presentation of research results
- Language skills (CEFR level): English up to C1, German up to A2 or willingness to acquire further German skills - we support you with language courses
Desirable skills and experience
- Knowledge or experience in public health research/phylogenomics
- Experience in the coordination and/or management of scientific projects
- Experience in presenting complex (scientific) topics in an understandable way
- Knowledge of sources of third-party funding and experience in acquiring funding via this route
