Our department ZIG 4 - Public Health Laboratory Support is looking forward to your application!

We are embedded in the Center for International Health Protection (ZIG) whose goal is to strengthen international public health systems and functions. Our focus is on collaboration with sub-Saharan African countries. ZIG 4's mission includes building laboratory capacity in partner countries, providing international emergency support during disease outbreaks, and conducting research through international partnerships (e.g., World Health Organization (WHO), Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC)).

Your job:

  • Supporting the development of training materials and practical training procedures on laboratory diagnostics of infectious agents.
  • Technical support of the team in the context of international research collaborations
  • Participation in the development and implementation of laboratory expertise, including the establishment of laboratories and conducting practical trainings, in Germany and in partner countries
  • Participation in international field missions for emergency support in the framework of national and international networks such as the Rapidly Deployable Expert Group on Health (SEEG) or the Global Outbreak and Response Network (GOARN)
  • Support in customs matters
  • Support in the establishment of a mobile laboratory
  • Care and maintenance of the ZIG4 training laboratory

Your professional profile:

Formal requirements

  • Completed training and state approval as MTA, state approval as CTA/BTA in each case with relevant professional experience

In the case of foreign educational qualifications, we require a certificate of equivalence with a German qualification.

Skills and experience

  • in diagnostics of infectious agents and modern methods of molecular biology
  • in teaching in practical laboratory training
  • in working in and with low- and middle-income countries
  • Confident in using common MS Office programs
  • Language skills (CEFR level): German up to B2, English up to B2 or willingness to acquire further German/English skills - we support you with language courses

Desirable skills and experience

  • Working experience in mobile laboratories, including quality management
  • Competent in classical bacterial diagnostic methods
  • Experience in working in international and interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience in shipping laboratory materials and equipment internationally
  • Language skills (CEFR level): French min. A2

  • Willingness to travel and participate in international assignments, even at short notice; health requirements (Fitness for the tropics) must be met
  • Willingness to participate in and successfully complete an extended security clearance in accordance with § 9 of the Security Clearance Act (Sicherheitsüberprüfungsgesetz, SÜG)
