The new “Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Public Health Research” (ZKI-PH) offers a unique working and research environment: with innovative methods, an international team and state-of-the-art equipment, we are committed to the health of the population.

For legal reasons, the specific duration of the individual contract (maximum 3 years) is based on the individual availability of time within the meaning of § 2 (1) of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG).

Your job:

Conduct scientific research in the field of artificial intelligence with a particular focus on Public Health, e.g.:

  • Independent work on exciting research projects at the interface of AI, digital epidemiology and public health:
    • AI-based method development and application in climate and societal analytics at the ZKI-PH.
  • Interdepartmental collaboration with colleagues at the Robert Koch Institute in order to combine and expand the expertise at the RKI in the research of diseases with the methods of artificial intelligence, e.g. through the
    • comprehensive analysis of epidemics; further development of early warning systems; risk assessment of pathogens
    • Causal analyses with regard to climate conditions
  • Development of novel algorithms/methods, manage and integrate data and provide quality assurance for this work
  • Potential supervision of junior researchers

 Preparation of scientific reports and publications, as well as assistance with science outreach/communication activities, e.g.:

  • Preparation of project and research reports
  • Publication of research results in national and international journals with high impact
  • Presentation of research results at national and international conferences

Your professional profile:

Formal requirements

  • Advance higher education degree (master's degree) in natural sciences or mathematical discipline
  • PhD preferred

In the case of foreign educational qualifications, we require a certificate of equivalence with a German qualification.

Skills and experience

  • Research experience in the field of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and causal inference in the application field of ZKI-PH
  • in common programming languages
  • Experience in quantitative data analysis and in handling complex bodies of data
  • in the relevant and related topics on disease dynamics and pandemic research
  • Highly developed skills in scientific publishing as well as the presentation of research results
  • Language skills (CEFR-Level): English at least C1, German at least A2 or willingness to acquire further German/English skills - we support you with language courses
  • Complete list of publications and list of previous/ongoing externally funded projects with funding details

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience in the coordination and/or management of scientific projects
  • Knowledge or experience in public health research
  • Experience in presenting complex (scientific) topics in an understandable way
  • Knowledge and experience in acquiring third-party funding
  • Complete list of publications and list of previous/ongoing externally funded projects with funding details
